RISC vs. CISC: The Real Story
The Bottom Line
Continued from RISC: The Reality
The difference between RISC and CISC microprocessors is no longer one of instruction sets, but of chip architectures. The designations RISC and CISC are no longer meaningful in the original sense; what counts is how fast a chip can execute the instructions it is given and how well it runs existing software. These days, both RISC and CISC manufacturers are pulling out all the stops to get an edge on the competition.
