Meta tags offer powerful techniques for getting your Web site the attention it deserves. Not only do they store information about your pages in the HTML, they can also control things like when a page is refreshed and where it will appear in search engines. By William Robert Stanek So many Web technologies are being introduced that it's nearly impossible to keep up with them. But at least one cornerstone Web technology has largely been neglected lately: meta tags. Only a meager 20 percent of Web pages use them, but that doesn't mean meta tags are outdated or some new technology is better. For example, did you know that meta tags can help you create a slide show or control browser caching? Meta tags can also improve your search engine ranking and control the indexing of your Web site--and this is only the beginning. In fact, if you use meta tags correctly they will put you in the driver's seat when it comes to how, when, and why your Web pages are viewed.
